High Performance Trainee Scheme 2 Initiated

27 Jan 2012

The Irish Institute of Sport held a workshop for the 2nd year of the High Performance Trainee Scheme on January 17th 2012.  Nine trainees and eight mentors have been selected for this year’s scheme.  The workshop initiated the trainee and mentor relationship and also provided an opportunity for the individual work programmes to be set for the duration of the scheme. David Passmore, High Performance Director of Irish Hockey, led the workshop. David provides us with vast knowledge and experience in the process of mentoring.

Trainees have been assigned to mentors in the areas of medicine, nutrition, performance analysis, physiology, psychology and strength and conditioning.

The aim of the programme is to provide supervised experience for appropriately qualified service providers within a sport’s High Performance team.

This Trainee Programme is designed for service providers who, at present, do not meet all the criteria to apply for membership of the Institute of Sport’s Professional Membership Accreditation Programme (PQAP). These trainees will have the necessary academic qualifications for membership but may not yet have sufficient practical experience to apply for Professional Membership of the Institute. Successful candidates will be up-skilled under the guidance of a suitably qualified mentor.
