Ireland 1 -1 Great Britain (men)

26 Jan 2012

Ireland's men took on Great Britain today in the first of two training matches at Bisham Abbey. Ireland opened the scoring early on when Paul Gleghorne netted after a swift counter attack and good combination work in the circle on the 12th minute of play.

Both sides continued to have chances through open play and penalty corners but with neither side realising their opportunities the half time whistle blew with the boys in green one up.

Great Britain came out strong in the second half equalising in the 38th minute scoring through open play. The game continued to ebb and flow with great play from both sides but it was Ireland who had the real chance to steal the game as they secured a penalty corner on the whistle. The initial corner was saved but gave way to another but Ireland just couldn't convert and the game closed out in a one all deadlock.

Ireland will play their second match at 11am tomorrow.
