Podium Finish for Irish Schoolgirl at Optimist World Sailing Championship

09 Jan 2012

14 year old Sophie Browne from Tralee will be returning home from the Optimist World Sailing Championship in Napier, New Zealand with a podium finish. Although Browne finished 13th overall from a fleet of 210, she was 2nd girl which earns her the girl's silver medal. This result is a tremendous accomplishment for the teenager who beat off fierce competition from what is recognised as the toughest and most competitive youth sailing class in the world.

Rory Fitzpatrick, ISA Youth & Development Officer remarked "This is an outstanding performance and result for Sophie. She has been training hard with the ISA Optimist Squad for the past 12 months in preparation for this event and we are delighted with her silver medal".
