MEN'S HOCKEY:
Ireland Compete But Fail To Convert Against The Dutch

Ireland 0 - 3 Holland

Ireland took on the mighty Dutch late yesterday evening at Pinoke H.C., Amsterdam, losing out three nil.

It took the Irish men time to adjust to the fast pace of the Dutch but once adjusted they managed to step up and compete in a tough match. Holland got the first of their three goals in the 28th minute from a penalty corner by Walter Jolie. Ireland managed to create chances of their own both through open attack play and penalty corners, but failure to convert left them empty handed at half time.

The Dutch managed to slot their second goal in the forty third minute from good open attacking play, and Roderick Wausthof converted for the home side.  Ireland again were not without opportunity and managed to win a number of penalty corners, six in total throughout the match, but could not find the back of the net through the set pieces.

Holland copper fastened their victory with just over ten minutes ago, again demonstrating their ability to score from open play when Timma Hoynge found the back of Irish Keeper Mark Ruddle’s net.

Despite the loss to the world number four’s Coach Passmore was positive “The players went out and competed well. It took us a while to get used to the fast Dutch pace, but then we managed to create some chances but were unable to convert.”
