Round 2 Men's & ESB Electric Ireland Irish Senior Cup

The top hockey action continues this weekend around the country as the Men's and ESB Electric Ireland Irish Senior Cup takes centre stage once again for round 2.


Sixteen teams (in each men & women) will take to the field in order to progress to the quarter finals which are taking place in 2012. On the men's side last year's winners Cookstown have the advantage of home territory as they take on Ulster rivals Banbridge. Meanwhile the 2010 runners up Monkstown will have a tight battle on their hands as they take on Pembroke Wanderers who are no strangers to lifting this cup (2008; 2009). Two northern teams are going to have to make the long trip to Munster as 'Garvey head towards Cork C of I having already disposed of Munster's UCC with a convincing 4-0 victory in round 1; while Annadale take on Cork Harlequins at 13.30.


On to the women's ESB Electric Ireland side of things last year's winners Pegasus will take on Ballymoney while runners up Hermes will be confident as they take on Old Alex, who they recently beat 3-0 in the Irish Hockey League. 2010 winners Loreto will head to Belfast Harlequins while the students of UCD, who are showing excellent form recently beating Pegasus in the IHL, will head to Catholic Institute where ex Irish Captain Eimear Cregan plays her club hockey.


The draw for round 3 for both the Men's and ESB Electric Ireland Irish Senior Cup will be made in the Railway Union club house after the match this Saturday at approximately 5pm.
