Sunday October 2nd is National Trails Day where the entire community, young and old, is invited to go out and explore the many walking routes that are available on their doorstep. On that day South Dublin County Sports Partnership (SDCSP) are inviting people to participate on "Ramble Aid", a walk from Thomas Davis GAA club on Kiltipper Road, Tallaght up to Bohernabreena reservoir and back. This scenic walk to a hidden part of the county is free of charge but people are asked to make a donation of any size towards famine relief in East Africa.

John Treacy, Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council which is the principal funder of the SDCSP, is also a Board member of aid agency Concern and is delighted to be involved in the event. " I think that we are fortunate to have in the area such a beautiful location as the Bohernabreena reservoir walk and despite the difficult economic times at present in Ireland we are also fortunate that we have basic conditions of life such as water readily available. Walking is one of the easiest ways of improving your health and your lifestyle and this event combines that with helping to try and improve the lives of others less fortunate".

The walk to the reservoir and back is approximately 8km (5 miles) while the loop around the reservoir adds another 4km onto it, however people can turn back at any stage they want. SDCSP is calling on the entire community - families, schoolchildren, adults - to participate and is looking forward to what promises to be a great community event. The walk is scheduled to start at 10.30am and there will be refreshments and music entertainment offered.

SDCSP would like to thank their supporters for this event including Thomas Davis GAA club, The Echo newspaper group, South Dublin County Council, South Dublin Chamber of Commerce and the HSE Health Promotion Unit through their Get Ireland Active campaign.
