Irish rowers compete at World Junior Rowing Championships in London this week

Ireland is represented by athletes from north and south of the island at this week's World Rowing Junior Championships which take place in London this week.

Skibbereen's Paul O'Donovan and Portora's Holly Nixon will compete at London's Dorney Lake, the home of rowing for the 2012 Olympic Games.

O'Donovan will race in the Men's junior single scull, facing competition from Latvia, Georgia, Belarus and Tunisia in the opening stages tomorrow afternoon. First to fourth place will go to the quarter finals from this heat.

O'Donovan has had a very successful season to date, recently finishing a mere half second behind Olympic heavyweight Sean Casey at the Irish Rowing Championships.

Fermanagh's Portora Boat Club will be represented by rising star Holly Nixon who faces scullers from Belgium, Venezuela, Slovenia and Switzerland in the women's single scull. The fastest two boats will go to the A/B semi-finals with all others getting a second chance in the repechage.
