Irish Open Swimming Championships at the National Aquatic Centre

The 2011 Irish Open Youth/Senior Long Course Championships continued today at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

The big winner of the day was Enniskillen swimmer Chelsey Wilson, who took the gold medals in both the 50m Backstroke (30.94) and 200m Backstroke (2:19.24) events. Also on the podium was 31 year old Donal O'Neill, who impressed in the 100m Butterfly final and taking gold in a time of 57.27.

O'Neill's team-mate at NUIM Devils Swim Team, Seamus Stacy, won the national title in the 400m Freestyle event (3:58.23), whilst the Women's title went to Nuala Murphy, swimming for Trojan (4:19.14).

Day 3 in Sheffield at the British Age Groups was another eventful day for the Irish athletes with some strong heat swims in the morning allowing Ciaran Burke (11Yrs) and Benjamin Doyle get second swims in the 200BC finishing in 6th and 8th place in their finals.

The middle part of the day saw Danielle Hill and Ali Berry compete in the 800FC with a superb swim from Berry to finish in 4th place and a new PB in the 13Yrs age group, while Hill swam well to finish in 10th place in the 11Yrs age group.

In the 1500FC yesterday Morgan Berryman (CITY of BELFAST) swam to a 9th place result just outside his best time.
