An Post Tour de Burren Online Registration Closes Tomorrow at 4.00pm

The Burren Cycling Club and Clare Sports Partnership will host the An Post Tour de Burren 2011 in the spectacular setting of North Clare on Saturday the 18th of June 2011. There are four routes to choose from - 10k Aillwee Cave Family Loop which starts at 12.30, the 60k Corkscrew Challenge and the 100k Burren 100 which both begin at 11.00, and the 160k Burnin Burren - the most challenging route - which gets underway at 09.30.


The tour attracted 1,700 cyclists in 2010 and organisers expect 2,000 riders this year. 5000 slices of bread, 2000 slices of ham, 2,200 Cadbury flakes and 1,500 bananas will be consumed and 180 ground marshals, 5 doctors and 4 physiotherapists will be on duty.


Those taking part include cycling legend Sean Kelly, John Tracey CEO of the Irish Sports Council and Donal Connell CEO of An Post and a number of An Post employees who will cycle the 100km and 22 employees from the A Wear fashion retailer will cycle the 60km Corkscrew Challenge.


The Tour de Burren is part of the An Post Cycle Series, in association with the Irish Sports Council and aims to encourage communities around the country to get on their bikes. Cyclists can register on the day or online www.tourdeburren.com
