Taylor into Final at European Union Womens Championship

AIBA World and European champion Katie Taylor produced a top drawer performance to march into the lightweight final at the European Union Women's Championships following a 28-10 win over English champ Chantelle Cameron in Katowice, Poland this morning.

The Bray woman, boxing for the third time in four days, never looked back from opening up a 5-2 lead in the first round against the Northampton fighter. "Katie was a different class. It's the best I've seen her perform. She was absolutely brilliant," said IABA Director of Boxing Dominic O'Rourke, at ringside in Katowice. Taylor, who is aiming for her fourth EU title in a row, will now meet Poland's Karolina Graczyk in Saturday's 60Kg final.

But while Taylor was celebrating her Bray BC team-mate Laoise Traynor and Lauragh O'Neill bowed out following semi-final reversals today. Traynor was beaten 20-8 in the welterweight category by Marichelle De Jong of Holland and O'Neill lost her light-heavyweight duel 26-10 to Timea Nagy of Hungary.
