Katie Taylor advanced to the quarter-finals of the European Women's Championships with an 11-6 win over Denista Eliseeva of Bulgaria at the Spodek Sports Hall in Katowice, Poland this morning.

The last-16 clash was a repeat of the controversial Strandja Multi-Nations bout in Bulgaria which Eliseeva was adjudged to have won 5-1 last February.

Taylor, the current World and European lightweight champion - who is aiming for her fourth European Union title in a row in Poland - will now meet Italian southpaw Marzia Davide in Wednesday's quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Cavan flyweight Ceire Smith bowed out of the tournament this morning after she lost 9-4 Katalin Ancisin of Hungary.

Sinead Kavanagh will be in action this afternoon.
