BOXING Taylor presented with AIBA Award

03 Nov 2010

World lightweight champion Katie Taylor was presented with the AIBA World female boxer of the year award in Kazakhstan last night.

Taylor, who claimed her third AIBA World title in a row in Barbados in September, was presented with her award by AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu in Almaty.

The 24-year-old Bray woman also won this award in Moscow in 2008.

Taylor, the current European and European Union champion, dedicated the award to all the people who worked to make women's boxing an Olympic sport.

"I would like to thank AIBA for this award. It's a huge honour to receive this award above all the great female boxers in the world, she said.

"I'm so happy that women's boxing is included in the London Olympics and I would like to collect this award on behalf of everyone who made that happen. In London 2012 we are going to show the world what women's boxing can do."
