BOXING AIBA Reinstate Kavanagh at World Championships

Sinead Kavanagh has been reinstated in the 6th AIBA World Women's Championships in Barbados.

The Drimnagh BC middleweight lost out to Wided Younsi of Tunisia at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Bridgetown on Friday night.

However, Younsi admitted after the bout that she once boxed professionally and the result has been annulled.

Additionally, the Tunisian has been suspended and disqualified and Kavanagh will now meet Li Jinzi of China in a last-16 bout on Monday (September 13th) night.

Kavanagh, Katie Taylor, who is targeting her third AIBA World title in a row, and Allan Murphy will all be in action today.

AIBA statement."Tunisian boxer Wided Younsi has been suspended and disqualified from the 6th AIBA Women's World Championships, which are currently being held in Barbados.

Younsi confessed that she had participated in a professional boxing match, but signed a written statement to confirm that the Tunisia boxing federation had not been aware of this.

Her victory over Ireland's Sinead Kavanagh at 75kg in the first round is therefore annulled, which means that Drimnagh-based Kavanagh, the Irish National Champion, will now face China's Li Jinzi ."
