It was an outstanding achievement and means that Morrissey has qualified for the Youth Olympic quarter finals. His opponent is Yuki Bhambri fro India, a grand slam winner

Rowing:

Denise Walsh finished 6th in her semi final and subsequently qualified for the B final on the 18th August, which guarantees her a top twelve finish. Walsh has been recieving treatment for an ear infection but will hopefully recover to put in strong performance in this first ever Youth Olympic rowing event

Hockey: Ireland lose 3-1 to Holland.

Hockey: Ireland lost 3-1 to pre tournament favourites Holland in the opening match of the Youth Olympic Hockey Tournament at the Sengkang Stadium in Singapore. Holland found it difficult to break down a very well organised defence.

They scored a controversial opening goal midway through the first half when an initial shot went in off a Dutch player's thigh. Ireland's goal came form a fabulous passing move down the right which was played onto the baseline and passed to the far post for Emily Beattie to score with a deflection on 42 minutes. However, a lack of concentration in defence allowed Holland to take a 2-1 lead from the restart.

The second half was interrupted by a lightning warning lasting 30mins. Holland improved after the break and won the match late on with a well executed penalty corner.

Ireland can be pleased with their overall performance and will be encouraged with many aspects of their play.
If they can covert more open play and penalty convert chances they will surprise a few teams in this tournament.
