SAILING Final Day at ISA Youth Nationals & Junior Pathway Championship 2010

11 Apr 2010

- Final Day at ISA Youth Nationals & Junior Pathway Championship 2010
- New Champions for 2010

Five championship titles were decided on the concluding day of the ISA Youth Nationals & Junior Pathway Championship.

151 sailors competed across six classes during the Championship which ran from 6th - 9th April in the Fastnet Marine Outdoor Education Centre, Schull, Co Cork. This championship is part of the ISA Olympic Programme, which delivers a pathway from Junior Sailors right through to Olympic finalists.

  • ISA 420 Youth National Champions: Cian O'Regan & Scott Flanigan, Kinsale Yacht Club
  • ISA Laser 4.7 Youth National Champion: John Flynn, Dungarvan Harbour Sailing Club
  • ISA Laser Radial Youth National Champion: Mattie O'Dowd, Royal St George Yacht Club
  • ISA Topper Junior Pathway Champion: Finn Lynch, Blessington Sailing Club
  • ISA RS Feva Junior Pathway Champion: Brendan Lyden & Mark Cudmore, Royal Cork Yacht Club / Baltimore Sailing Club

Virtually all the overnight leaders held onto their positions to claim championship titles. The exception being within the 420 class when Cian O'Regan & Scott Flanigan, Kinsale Yacht Club, reclaim the lead they had temporarily lost due to disqualification in Race 9.

The other upset arose in the Laser Radial class, also Race 9, when Philip Doran (Courtown Sailing Club & Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club) lost a protest and subsequently dropped from second to third overall.

The ISA Youth Nationals & Junior Pathway Championship was kindly sponsored by Curradinghy Sailing for the second year running, providing both prizes and support.
