28 Sep 2009
  • Day One concludes at the ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship.
  • Three Places in Sunday's Final Secured
  • The O'Leary Father / Son battle commences in Flight One

The first round of racing in the ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship took place today (Friday 25th Sept) in Cork Harbour, when the qualification series of races for Flight One were completed. Hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club, the first slot for Sunday's final series of races went to local sailor Anthony O'Leary following his two firsts and second placings in races 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The 2008 Defending Champion Nicholas O'Leary secured the second slot, ensuring that the father / son battle will continue for the 2009 Championship final. (In 2008 Anthony placed second overall to his son)

However entering race three, the final slot open to Flight One competitors was still available. With a number of sailors tying on points following the first two races, the competition would be tight. In the end it was Ben Duncan who placed third in race three, to secure his place in Sunday's final.

Qualification racing for Flights Two and Three will take place tomorrow, before the final series of races commences on Sunday.

Tomorrow will also see the start of the ISA Junior & Girls All Ireland Sailing Championship 2009. This event will take place in the single handed Olympic class Laser Radial dinghy.
