BOXING Nevin into Top Ten in AIBA World Rankings

John Joe Nevin has moved up four places to number seven in the official AIBA World rankings just released for September.
Nevin, who claimed a bronze medal at the recent AIBA World Championships in Milan, was ranked 11th in the World ahead of the 15th edition of theChampionships at the Mediolanum Forum.

But the Cavan bantamweights performance in Milan has lifted him into the top ten in the world along with 2008 Olympians Ken Egan, Paddy Barnes and John Joe Joyce.

Egan and Joyce remain in fourth and sixth spot in respectively, while Barnes drops down three places to number nine.

The rankings are based on points accumulated at the Olympic Games, the AIBA World Championships, the AIBA World Youth Championships, the Confederation Championships and Olympic qualifiers.

Boxers can earn more points at the Olympics and AIBA World Championships.

Twenty one Irish boxers are included in the rankings across all eleven weight categories.
