ATHLETICS Host Broadcaster RTة Sport Sign Off on Logistics for European Event

A delegation from European Athletics recently visited the Local Organising Committee of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships over two days in September.

One of the objectives of the visit was to define the positions of the TV cameras, course advertising boards and spectators and so a complete tour of the Santry course took place with representatives of the LOC, host broadcaster and European Athletics (including the technical delegate).

The final timetable for the event has now been officially finalised and signed off with valuable input from RTة Sport as the host broadcaster. Up to twelve cameras will be required by the television company to cover the live event on Sunday 13th December along with an expereinced crew.

Margaret Bennett is the RTة Sport representative on the LOC and will be leading the production team for the Championships. She already has huge experience with great athletic events including the Olympic Games in Beijing, the World Championships in Osaka and the Irish Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Over the two days, all of the LOC met with the European Athletics team to go over the planning and preparation for the first European Athletics Championships event ever to be held in Ireland. A huge amount of work will be undertaken over the coming months as the countdown has approached the 100 day mark!

Athletics Ireland is supported nationally in running this event by the Irish Sports Council, Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, RTة Sport and Clonliffe Harriers.

The 16th SPAR European Cross Country Championships take place on the 13th of December in Santry Demesne, Dublin. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster outlets nationwide or through www.ticketmaster.ie and event website www.dublin2009.ie.
