Sport Ireland welcomes €230m in grants under Community Sport Facilities Fund

Sport Ireland welcomes the announcement of €230m in grants for sports clubs and facilities under phase 2 of the Community Sport Facilities Fund (formerly Sports Capital and Equipment Programme).

Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May said: “This generous Government investment in sports facilities and equipment has the potential to transform the sporting landscape for communities right across Ireland. 

“At Sport Ireland, we’re thrilled to see over 1,900 projects get the funding they need to grow and thrive. These grants will improve accessibility, sustainability, and participation in sport for people of all ages and abilities.”

“The National Sports Policy 2018-2027 has provided the framework for sport in Ireland to continue to grow and this investment will play an important part in increasing activity levels of people in Sport in Ireland and removing the barriers and preventative aspects for getting involved in sport.” 

The €230m allocation follows a previously announced allocation of €26m for sports equipment, which brings the total investment in community sport and recreation in 2024 to €256m. This is a 50% increase on the funding allocated in early 2022 under the 2020 round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.

Investments such as that made through the Community Sport Facilities Fund help increase participation in sport nationwide and support the work carried out by the Sport Ireland Participation Unit in collaboration with Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs). 

This week is European Week of Sport, which is focused on inclusion, well-being, and belonging, and there are events taking place right around the country.

Led by the European Commission, the European Week of Sport aims to increase participation in physical activity across the EU. Its goal is to tackle inactivity and fight obesity by promoting healthier, more active lifestyles.
