After a decade, the ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship will return to the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Crosshaven, Co Cork on 25th, 26th & 27th September 2009.

In 1999 the championship was claimed by local sailor, Mark Mansfield, who has competed in four different Olympic Games - 1992 Barcelona; 1996 Atlanta; 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens.

The current defending champion Nicholas O'Leary, also a fellow RCYC member successfully held off both his father Anthony and brother Peter, to 2nd and 3rd place respectively, when the event took place in Howth Yacht Club last year.

The senior event will take place over a three day period with the first flight of competitors sailing in ISA SailFleet J80s on Friday afternoon. The winner of the event will be known as the ISA All Ireland Sailing Champion 2009 and will be awarded the ISA Helmsman's Trophy.

The Junior & Girls competition begins on Saturday morning in Laser Radial dinghies and all will race together. The overall winner will be the ISA All Ireland Junior Sailing Champion 2009. The first placed girl will be known as the ISA All Ireland Girls Sailing Champion 2009. In addition each boy and girl will receive financial support towards attending top class regattas in order to advance their sailing careers.

Up to 20 races are planned to take place throughout the weekend. Racing will be competitive from the start with scores counting from race one.

The sailors are invited from the competitive ISA affiliated classes, which nominate their top sailors as well as from 'wild card' nominations selected by the ISA for outstanding achievement. This ensures that the most competitive fleet of Irish sailors will gather in Crosshaven.

The Notice of race for the Championship is now available however final nominations have yet to be received. The closing date is 1st September 2009.
