Jason Smyth, Irish Para Athlete, and 3-time Paralympic Champion
Jason Smyth burst onto the para scene in 2005 at the European Para Championships, clinching double gold in the T13 100m and 200m categories. Retiring in March 2023, Smyth carved out an indelible legacy with an undefeated 18-year career, securing 21 gold medals, including 6 European, 9 World Championship, and 6 Paralympic Games golds in Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020.
In testament to Smyth's calibre, he smoothly transitioned to non-para-athletics, participating in 2 European Championships and a World Championship. A mere 0.04 seconds separated Smyth from Olympic qualification in London 2012. His personal best 100m time of 10.22s positions him as the 3rd fastest sprinter in Irish history. Recognizing his monumental contributions, Smyth received an MBE in 2022.
Post-retirement, Smyth assumed a strategic role at Paralympics Ireland, actively shaping the future of Para sports. Concurrently, he is on the brink of becoming a qualified financial advisor, further diversifying his skill set.
