Padraig Harrington
Padraig Harrington
Having won in only his tenth event as a professional in 1996, Padraig became European number one in 2006, before winning his national Open a year later. Winning a total of 37 times as a professional, he captured three major championships in the space of 13 months – the 2007 and 2008 Open and the 2008 PGA Championships – which helped him reach a career high of 3rd in the World Rankings. More recently, he has secured six tournament victories on the PGA Champions Tour, including the 2022 Senior US Open, is a six-time member and former Captain of the European Ryder Cup Team, and will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in June 2024. Beyond golf, Padraig founded the Padraig Harrington Charitable Foundation in 2006 to provide financial assistance to deserving beneficiaries around the world. Padraig is a patron of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund, Make A Wish Foundation, GOAL, the Irish American Partnership and the Irish Youth Foundation, as well as an Ambassador for The R&A and Special Olympics. To introduce newcomers to the game, Padraig helped design a putting green at Marlay Park, which was opened earlier this year and funded by his Foundation, together with grants from The R&A and Golf Ireland, supported by Sport Ireland’s special projects scheme.
