The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month July 2023

The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month for July is footballer Katie McCabe.

Katie McCabe captained Ireland for their historic first appearanceat the World Cup. While she may balk at being lauded for captaining the side to one draw and two defeats, her performances in Australia and her form for Arsenal last season show her deserviing of the accolade.

In addition to capataining her country, she has the distinction of being the first Republic of Ireland player to score a goal in the tournament.

The manner in which McCabe drove Ireland on in three difficult games stood out. Her ceaseless energy set the tone for the team and was at the centre of most of their best work.
