World Championships Draw - Badminton
The draws have been published for the 2014 World Championships in Copenhagen at the end of August. Team Ireland have qualified players in three events at this year's competition. To qualify you need to be ranked in the world's top 64.
Team Ireland kick off in Copenhagen from Monday the 25th of August. The team will be full of confidence after recent success at the Brazil Grand Prix and US Grand Prix Gold, but they have a number of difficult draws ahead of them in this prestigious event.
In the men singles Scott Evans will face world number 14 Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand who is seeded 12 in this event.
In the women singles Chloe Magee faces former world top 10 player Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong with the winner set to face number two seed Shixian Wang of China.
Chloe will also compete in the mixed doubles with her brother Sam. The Irish number ones will face Hung Ling Chen and Wen Hsing Cheng of Chinese Taipei. The mixed pair are ranked 32 in the world and are climbing fast with Hung Ling Chen being former World number 5 with his last partner.
Positive results in Copenhagen will strengthen hopes of Ireland qualifying for later stages of the European Team championships, with home ties against Norway, Slovakia and Bulgaria in Dublin this November.
