Women's National League round-up

27 Jan 2013

Peamount United got back to winning ways in the Bus ةireann Women's National League when comprehensively defeating Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

Despite a couple of recent losses Peamount were never in any danger of being caught out by the Hoops, who were in trouble from an early stage of a contest played in extremely difficult conditions.

Only six minutes had elapsed when the effective Sara Lawlor edged Peamount ahead following hesitant Rovers defending.

Peamount were playing their usual stylish game and hit a second in the 11th minute courtesy of an opportunistic Louise Quinn finish.

Solene Barbance added a third in the 23rd minute as Peamount were controlling the game before a brief burst of Rovers pressure.

Grainne Walsh crafted an opportunity for Louise Murphy to trim the deficit on 26 minutes, but Peamount weren't unduly bothered.

Two minutes before the interval Quinn headed a goal in a crowded goalmouth as Peamount departed at the break armed with a significant advantage.

After the restart Rovers improved, but Peamount notched a fifth in the 76th minute when Lawlor sealed a crucial victory.

Sunday's other scheduled fixtures involving DLR Waves v Cork Women's FC and Raheny United v Castlebar Celtic were postponed.
