Waterski: Silver Medal for Sian Hurst
All week, the Irish Team of 17 Riders, parents and friends, set a great example of good sportsmanship, very enthusiastic cheering when anything green hit the water and made more friends than any others here in Doha. With 142 Cmpetitors from 24 Countries, the competition was fierce throughout. This was the first major overseas team to compete for Ireland at this level. The sweltering 34C temperatures, an extraordinary City skyline and perfect conditions at the Doha Diplomatic Club site just added to the enjoyment.
When Ireland's Junior Women's Rider Sian Hurst was first off the dock in the Final, the other five international competitors included all looked threatening. In fact, Sian Hurst outperformed every Rider to follow bar just one and that was the second last Rider, Caitlyn Blaauw from Australia. This was a stunning performance for Ireland's young Rider and certainly raises the profile of Wakeboarding internationally.
Ireland's Wakeboard Team was selected by the Wakeboard Council of the Irish Waterski Federation and supported by the Irish Sports Council and Billabong.
