Trinity Student Prakash Vijayanath has had a good season so far finishing second in the All Africa Championships and has followed that up this week by winning the South African National Mens Singles title in his first year at senior. Prakash currently trains in the Badminton Ireland academy under the guidance of Performance Pathway Coach Daniel Magee and a team of coaches.

"I am really enjoying my training in the Badminton Ireland academy, and i feel I have a good balance between my education and my training" Prakash Vijayanath

Following on from the success of the Badminton Ireland academy, this year Badminton Ireland hope to launch a number of academy cells. The first of these cells the BC Academy Cell launches on October 22nd in Baldoyle Badminton Centre. The academy cells are designed for enthusiastic young players interested in receiving quality coaching on a regular basis from fully qualified badminton Ireland certified coaches. The cell will operate so that it feeds into the BI academy which runs at the Badminton Ireland National training centre, Marino Institute of Education, which is a Badminton Europe certified training centre.

The goal of the academy is to help young players to reach their full badminton potential while they undertake their education and to continue to produce rising stars like Prakash Vijayanath in the future.
