The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month award for December 2023 goes to boxer, Katie Taylor.

In the 22 years since her first officially sanctioned fight, Katie Taylor has produced many unforgettable performances in the ring. Along the way, few equalled her re-match with Chantelle Cameron at Dublin's 3Arena on November 25th..

In May of this year, Taylor had suffered her first professional defeat at the hands of the English boxer. At that point more than a few speculated that her career was over. Not quite.

In a fight for the ages, her victory, in front of a crowd of 9,000, saw Taylor add super lightweight belts to the lightweight collection she already owned, making her the first undisputed Irish world champion at two weight divisions.

Taylor had hardly left the ring when there was talk of a 'Trilogy', Taylor hoping to fight Cameron again, her dream for the 'decider' to take place in Croke Park.

A five-time winner of The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year title, Taylor has put herself in contention for that award again by winning the November Sportswoman of the Month.

The awards ceremony to announce The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year will take place on Friday, December 22nd.
