The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month April 2024: Róisín Ní Riain (Swimming)
The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month award for April 2024 goes to Róisín Ní Riain.
Limerick teenager, Ní Riain, produced the sporting week of her life last month when she won five medals, including two golds, at the European Para Swimming Championships in Portugal.
It was an outstanding all-round performance by the Irish team, which won 12 medals in all, but Ní Riain's form was exceptional, despite having a gruelling schedule that saw her swim in 11 races over seven days.
In the end, she took gold in the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Backstroke, silver in the 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley and bronze in the 400m Freestyle.
That success will send Ní Riain, who at 16 was the youngest member of the Irish team that competed at the Tokyo Olympics, into this summer's Paralympic Games with the highest of hopes.
Congratulations to Róisín Ní Riain, The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month for April 2024.
