The Irish Sports Monitor (ISM) has been established as an ongoing survey of participation in sport in Ireland. This is the second annual report of the ISM, based on the data collected in 2008. The project involves the collection of questionnaire responses by telephone, from a representative sample of the Irish public aged 16 and over, and the monitoring and analysis of the resulting patterns and trends relating to participation in Irish sport. Although some sporting organisations operate on an all-Ireland basis, the ISM covers only residents of the Irish state.
