Team Ireland destroy Israel to advance to group shootout with France

Team Ireland continued their excellent form at the European mixed team championships in Russia with a dominant display in a 4-1 victory over Israel.


Sam and Chloe Magee got the match off to a perfect start with an easy two set win over Chislov and Pugach. The Experienced Irish duo learning a valuable lesson from yesterday's three set opener against Finland.


Jonathan Dolan stepped into fill the shoes of Scott Evans in the men's singles and the Sligo native put up a brave show against Misha Zilberman, a player ranked inside the world's top 60, before going down in two close sets in his first senior international.


From there Team Ireland stepped up a gear and blew away any threat that Israel posed with Chloe Magee never getting out of first gear in her women's singles before Scott Evans and Sam Magee secured the victory with a two set win in the men's doubles.


"It was another good solid performance from us today and Johnny was very unlucky in his singles. We can be very confident going into tomorrow's match against the French and you can be assured they will have to play their full strength team against us" said Evans to Badminton Europe.
