Taylor to begin quest for 4th European Union title in a row

Katie Taylor will begin her quest for her 4th European Union title in a row against Bulgarian lightweight Denista Eliseeva at the Spodek Sports Hall in Katowice, Poland this morning. The last-16 clash is a repeat of the controversial Strandja Multi-Nations bout in Bulgaria which Eliseeva was adjudged to have won 5-1 last February.

Taylor, the current World and European champ, beat Eliseeva 16-1 in the 2010 European Union final in Hungary and 8-1 in the European Union final in Bulgaria.Meanwhile, Sinead Kavanagh will also be in action on Tuesday morning. The Drimnagh boxer meets Tamara Fabiana Garcia of Spain.

Ceire Smith will get Ireland's campaign underway with a flyweight showdown with Katalin Ancisin of Hungary. Smith was originally penciled in to box on Wednesday but her bout will now go ahead on Tuesday morning. Laoise Traynor and Lauragh O'Neill have both received byes into the semi-finals and are guaranteed a bronze medal apiece.
