SWIMMING Sycerika Wins Bronze at European Junior Championships

Ireland completed day two of the European Junior Swimming Championships in Helsinki with one bronze medal by Scyerika McMahon in the 400m freestyle (4.15.92, new Irish Junior Record) and a semi-final performance from Shani Stallard in the 200m breaststroke (2.35.99) which puts her in 2nd reserve position for tomorrow’s final.


McMahon, who was seeded first going into the 400m freestyle final is making an appearance at the European Juniors for the first time and will be still be eligible to swim in the competition next year.


Speaking after the race, McMahon’s coach Bobby Madine of Leander swimming club said “To win a medal at this level of competition is a tremendous credit to Sycerika and the work that she does in the pool, and it’s a great honour for the country.”
