SWIMMING McMahon Finishes 6th at European Junior Championships

14 Jul 2010

Ireland had a great day one in Helsinki at the European Junior Swimming Championships today. Fifteen year-old Portaferry native Sycerika McMahon of Leander swimming club finished in 6th place overall in the girl’s 400m Individual final this afternoon, 4 minutes 51.03 – a new personal best time.

The county Down swimmer also had a strong performance in the semi-final of the 200m butterfly, finishing in 2.18.88, positioning her in 8th place for tomorrow’s final. Due to a clash with other events however, Sycerika will not compete in the 200m butterfly final and will instead race in the 400m freestyle and 200m breaststroke.

Also swimming tomorrow is Shani Stallard of New Ross swimming club (200m breaststroke). The next correspondence will be tomorrow lunchtime.
