SWIMMING: Irish Swimming Team Arrive Home Triumphant

The Irish Swimming Team of ten swimmers and support staff arrives home today, having represented the nation triumphantly this week at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Croatia.


Irish Olympian Melanie Nocher capped an outstanding week for Irish swimming yesterday, when she finished fifth in the final of the Women's 200m backstroke in a new Irish Senior Record time of 2.05.62. Nocher had previously lowered the record - to 2.06.08 - in her heat swim.


Limerick High Performance swimmer Grainne Murphy added to her achievements in Croatia yesterday also, by recording a new Irish Junior Record time of 4.52.21 in the 400m Individual Medley.


Also yesterday, Conor Leaney established a new Irish Junior Record in his heat swim of the Men's 200m freestyle - recording a time of 1.49.05.
