Strong Cycling Team Announced for Glasgow World Cup

16 Nov 2012

This weekend Cycling Ireland start their 2012-2013 Track Campaign with a strong 3 person team. This is the second of three World Cups scheduled for this season, and will be the first major event to be held in the newly opened Chris Hoy Velodrome. The riders will be looking to secure qualification points towards the 2013 World Track Cycling Championships in Minsk at the end of February.

The National Team comprises of Olympian Martyn Irvine, World Track Championship Medallist Caroline Ryan, and Ireland's up and coming talent Eoin Mullen.

Irvine is competing in the Individual Pursuit and Scratch Races, with Ryan focusing on the Omnium event. Over the past few weeks these two riders have been preparing in Palma under the guidance of Andy Sparks.

Eoin Mullen, who is based at the World Cycling Centre in Switzerland, working with Tim Carswell, will compete in the Sprint and Keirin event.

Speaking before the event Acting High Performance Director, Geoff Liffey highlighted the importance of the event saying: "Given that there are only three World Cups it is important that we put in a strong showing in order to secure some valuable qualification points for the World Championships".
