SQUASH Canon Kirk Homes Irish Open 2008

14 Apr 2008

The Canon Kirk Irish Open 2008 commences in Fitzwilliam LTC today and will run all week up to Saturday (19th).

Once again the Irish Open has attracted a top quality field.  This is borne out by that last year's winners Ireland’s Madeline Perry and Welshman Alex Gough are only seeded no 4 in 2008 and will be hard pressed to make the finals.

In the women’s draw, England’s Vicky Bothright, world no 8 is the No 1 seed and world no 11 Alison Waters, also from England, is seeded at 2 to meet Perry in the semis. Ireland’s Aisling Blake is in the main draw and Laura Mylotte, Karen Shields and Tanya Owens are in the qualifying event.

In the mens top seed is Scotland's World no 15 John White and England's World no 14 Adrian Grant is seeded 2.  Ireland’s Liam Kenny is seeded 8 and is joined by Irish teammate Arthur Gaskin in the main draw. Derek Ryan, Rory Byrne and Niall Rooney are in the qualifying event.

The Irish Open has received support from the Irish Sports Council.
