Sports Council Congratulates Cricket Team at ICC World Cup

18 Mar 2011

The Irish Sports Council wishes to congratulate the Irish Men's Cricket Team on some outstanding performances in the ICC World Cup. Although the team failed to reach the Quarter-Finals it performed magnificently in a number of matches against some of the top cricket nations in the world.

Without doubt the top performance was the spell-binding victory over England against all the odds. This victory involved the largest successful run- chase in World Cup history and was spearheaded by Kevin O'Brien's historic fifty ball century, The Team concluded on a high note this morning with the third highest successful run-chase (307) to defeat the Netherlands by 6 wickets. The highlight of the win was Paul Stirling's 70 ball century.

The team can be proud of its achievements.
