SPORTS CAMPUS Work on the first phase of Sports Campus to begin in the New Year
The Irish Sports Council has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Mr John O'Donoghue TD that the Governmnet has approved the first phase of the Abobotstown Sports Complex. The Minister has directed Campus and Stadium Ireland Development Ltd to get the project under way in the New Year
Ossie Kilkenny, Chairman of the Irish Sports Council: "The Irish Sports Council supports the Abbotstown concept and is delighted that the Governmnet has given approval for it to procedd next year. Irish sports organisations and the population of west Dublin will be the main beneficiaries. The complex will also be hugely attractive to Irish and international sports squads preparing for the 2012 London Olympic Games"
John Treacy, Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council and a board member of CSID, said: "A huge amount of planning has gone into this project which is the right development at teh right time for Irish sport. It is essential infrastructure that will make a major contribution to sport in this country for many years to come. Governmnet support for the development must be enthusiastically welcomed"
