Sport Ireland Welcomes Increased Sports Investment In Budget 2016
Sport Ireland, the new statutory agency for sport in Ireland, welcome the increased investment in Sport Ireland and the broader sports sector announced in Budget 2016.
Speaking after the announcement, Sport Ireland Chair designate, Kieran Mulvey commented :"2016 will be a significant year in the establishment of Sport Ireland and I would like to thank Minister Donohoe, Minister Ring and the department officials for working tirelessly on behalf of Irish Sport. With preparations ongoing on the Road to Rio, the additional investment in current funding will ensure Irish athletes have the necessary supports to enable them to perform on the world stage. In addition, the commitment to the National Indoor Arena, a flagship project for Sport Ireland, will ensure our leading athletes and coaches have access to world class facilities at home".
Chief Executive of Sport Ireland, John Treacy said: "The budget announcement is a strong endorsement of the Government's commitment to Sport and would like to acknowledge Minister Donohoe, Minister Ring and the Department for their continuous support. The increased investment will support the advancement of the participation strategy and the implementation of the National Physical Activity Plan that will drive the participation agenda. I also would like to welcome the additional funding announced through Dormant Accounts fund which this year was used to establish Community Sport Hubs across the country and to create a National Sports Education and Training Hub to support those with disabilities and those with educational disadvantage".
