Sport Ireland Response to WADA Independent Commission

10 Nov 2015

Sport Ireland welcomes the recent report published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Independent Commission into allegations of widespread doping in Russian Athletics.

The evidence released demonstrates a shocking level of corruption and exposes serious concerns around governance and leadership.

The Independent Commission’s findings highlight that the international playing field has not been level.

Our athletes deserve better and we will fight on behalf of Irish athletes to ensure that they compete on the world stage, on a level playing field.

Irish athletes are among the most tested internationally and our intelligence led programme is recognized internationally and we make no apologies on our relentless pursuit of clean sport.

We work in partnership with international agencies across testing, education and research initiatives and are fully committed to protecting the rights of clean athletes.

Sport Ireland would like to acknowledge the work of the Independent Commission led by Mr. Richard Pound and the whistle-blowers and media for bringing these issues to WADA’s attention.

Sport Ireland relies on information from a wide range of sources in order to deter and detect doping in sport. If anyone has information they feel is important, they can report it to Sport Ireland in confidence online at www.irishsportscouncil.ie/report or email intelligence@irishsportscouncil.ie so we can continue to protect the rights of clean athletes and clean sport.
