Sport Ireland Congratulates O’Donovan Brothers on Ireland’s First Olympic Rowing Medal

12 Aug 2016

Sport Ireland Chairman Kieran Mulvey today congratulated Ireland’s Gary and Paul O’Donovan on winning Ireland’s first ever Olympic Rowing medal.

The Skibereen natives secured the silver in the men’s lightweight double sculls, narrowly missing out on top spot to French pair in a close fought encounter.

Speaking after the race, Mr Mulvey said: “The O’Donovan brothers have captured the imagination of the Irish public this week both on and off the water. The pair has given the country a real lift, and on behalf of Sport Ireland I would like to congratulate them both on what is a truly fantastic occasion for them, their support team and their family. I would also like to congratulate all at Rowing Ireland on this wonderful achievement.”
