Sport Ireland Congratulates Jason Smyth on Fifth Paralympic Gold

09 Sep 2016

Ireland’s Jason Smyth claimed his fifth Paralympic gold medal in Rio today after he stormed home in the T13 100m in a time of 10.64 seconds.

Jason remains unbeaten in Paralympic Games and following today’s victory Kieran Mulvey, Chairman of Sport Ireland, paid tribute to the fastest Paralympian on the planet: “Jason’s consistency at this level is unrivalled. To win a medal at the Paralympic Games is an achievement in itself, but to win five medals over the course of three Games shows just how talented Jason is.

“Jason is one of the hardest working Irish athletes and all those hours of training have culminated in yet another international success for the Derryman. On behalf of Sport Ireland I would like to congratulate Jason and all at Paralympics Ireland.”
