Show Jumping - Three Top Places For Irish Riders At Rotterdam
Denis Lynch led a notable day for Irish riders at the five-star show in Rotterdam, Holland with a win in the hotly-contested Rotterdam Championship class.
Riding Thomas Straumann's 14 year-old gelding Abbervail van het Dingeshof, the Irishman collected 7,500 euro for his victory in the 12 horse jump-off, and was joined in the ribbons by Co. Down's Dermott Lennon, who took a second place and 6,000 euro in prize money with Judith Sossick's Irish Sport Horse mare Loughview Lou Lou.
Ireland was also represented in the 37-strong class by a third place from the Irish Sport Horse Lisona, now ridden for the USA by rock legend Bruce Springsteen's daughter Jessica.
Earlier in the day, Meath's Cian O'Connor claimed second place in the 1m45 speed class with Nicole Walker's gelding Blue Loyd, the same horse that had earned him a bronze medal at the London Olympics. First place went to Dutch rider Leon Thijssen and the mare Haertthago.
Last night (Friday) Denis Lynch added a further 6,600 euro to his prize pot at the Dutch show with a win in the Six-Bar competition aboard the eight year-old mare Querida 75.
Rotterdam's Grand Prix takes place on Sunday afternoon.
