SAILING Laser Radial Youth World Championship, Karatsu, Japan: 3rd - 10th August 2009

In Japan Philip Doran has won the U17 Laser Radial World Title, with Oliver Loughead in 2nd, giving Ireland a 'one, two' on the podium at U17 level. At the Laser Radial Youth World Championship, Doran finished 9th overall in the main Gold fleet, with Oliver Loughead 12th overall.

Light to medium winds prevailed, where Chris Penney scored his second yellow flag leaving him a tough job in the final race as he placed 20th overall. Ross Vaughan also placed 31st in the Gold fleet. A tense yellow flag on the final reach cost Philip a top 7 placing but he maintained his composure to count a 6, 8 and 12 in the final series of races.
