Sailing: 2010 World Cup Success for Peter O'Leary

Pater O'Leary, with his German partner Frithjof Kleen, substituting for David Burrowes, won the Gold Fleet in the Star class on the 2012 Olympic course at Weymouth. This is a marvellous victory for Peter. After a series of 11 races, one discard allowed, Peter was in 2nd place behind 2000 Finn Olympic bronze medallist, Fredrik Loof. Peter needed to finish ahead of Loof in the final race to win the series. He achieved this by finishing 3rd, six places ahead t of Loof.

Another great Irish performance was Annalise Murphy's 9th place in the Gold Fleet in the Radial class.

Both Peter O Leary and Annalise Murphy are currently supported under the International Carding Scheme at World Class Level and are also part of the Irish Sailing Association's High Performance Programme which is funded by the Irish Sports Council.
