The regional dates for the ISA Yachtsman euromarine RIB Challenge were announced by Matt McGrory of Yachtsman euromarine. The ISA Yachtsman euromarine RIB Challenge will include water-based and shore-based challenges designed to test a range of skills including but not limited to safety, best practice, boat handling and the competent use of onboard and rescue equipment.

Matt McGrory, Managing Director of Yachtsman euromarine explained:
"We were delighted to sponsor the ISA Rib Challenge in 2008 as it gave us the opportunity to give back to the boating community and to support the ISA Clubs & Training Centres. Operating in the insurance arena, we recognise the importance of all efforts to improve boating skills and safety on the water and are back on board for 2009."

The ISA Yachtsman euromarine RIB Challenge will consist of a series of regional events, concluding with a grand final where the winning team will take home a 5 metre RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat). The challenge is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of powerboat crews, whilst providing teams with the chance to represent their clubs and training centres in a competitive environment.

Denis Dillon, ISA Motorboat Development Officer explained: "The concept of a Rib Challenge gives both ISA clubs and training centres the incentive to improve their skills base as well as gain valuable experience as they compete for the opportunity to win a RIB".

Four regional events will take place around the country:

  • 16th August 2009 - Region 1 (North) in Lisnaskea Boat Club
  • 6th September 2009 - Region 2 (East) in Courtown Sailing Club
  • 13th September 2009 - Region 4 (West) in University of Limerick Activity
  • 20th September 2009 - Region 3 (South) in West Cork Sailing & Powerboat Centre

The Grand Final will take place in mid October at Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club.

The Motorboat Development Officer continued: "In 2008 the winning team was from Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club. For 2009 many of the newly affiliated powerboat and PWC clubs are looking forward to comparing their skills with those from the sailing community."

In addition to sponsoring the Challenge Yachtsman euromarine, in association with the ISA, have launched a marine insurance scheme exclusive to ISA Members, Clubs and Training Centres.
