Ryan just outside her PB, 5th in Pursuit, Mullen 25th in the Keirin at World Cup Mexico

In a time of 3min 35.235 seconds Caroline Ryan finished the Individual Pursuit at the Track Cycling World Cup in Mexico in a credible 5th place. Her time, just 0.7 second outside her Personal Best, fell just short of qualifying for the Bronze medal ride-off. Pawlowska (Poland) took her second gold medal of the World Cup, with Colombian Calle Williams in silver, and Australia's Wiasak in Bronze.

The Women's Individual Pursuit is a 3km time trial. The qualifying round is a race against the clock, with the two fastest riders qualifying to race again for the Gold or Silver medal. The third and fourth fastest riders will race again for Bronze. Ryan's time was just 3 seconds off 4th fastest rider Brown of Canada. Having already qualified for the World Championships in Minsk next month, Ryan is steadily getting closer to the podium.

In the Kierin Eoin Mullen raced strongly, equipping himself well against the experienced field or riders. With the Keirin being an Olympic discipline, the pace of the race will always be intense. In the first round Mullen finished 7th in his heat, a heat which was won by eventual gold medallist Buchli (NED). Following this result Mullen moved to the First Repechage, where 5th in his heat was not enough for him to progress to the Second Round. The Gold Medal went to Buchli (NED), Watanabe (CCT) was Silver, with Pervis (FRA) in Bronze.

Mullen (20), who is making a smooth transition into the Senior Ranks, will race again today in the Sprint Events. In the First Round of the Sprints he will be the 31st starter, the top 16 riders in the 200m Time Trial will qualify for the next round.

Coach Andy Sparks said "Eoin is gaining a lot of experience racing against the World's best at the World Cup. He will gain a lot from racing against the elite riders."

The competition takes place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, between January 17th and 19th.
