Rowing Irelands new national head of the river competition which was due to take place at the National Rowing Centre in Cork this weekend has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Coach Development Officer, Pat McInerney explained, The event is being cancelled mainly due to the number of rowing clubs around the country that have been flooded making access to boats and equipment quite dangerous in some cases.

Many clubs are now underwater making it impossible to gain access to boathouses.

It is now hoped to re-scheduled the event for Saturday 19th December.

However the new countrywide schools indoor rowing competition will involves schools from the Munster regions will take place as planned tomorrow, Saturday 28th November at the National Rowing Centre in Ovens, Co. Cork.

The new indoor rowing competition is aimed at students from schools across the country with no previous experience of the sport. It is a Dry Row Programme and is funded under the Irish Sports Councils Women in Sport initiative which aims to get students in participating schools active within the sport.
