Robinson Gregan McCullough And Foster Impress In America

Paul Robinson (St Coca's AC) continued his impressive start to the 2014 season with a second place finish at the B.A.A Invitational Mile in Boston on the 19th of April. Robinson was up against a stacked field including 3.30.35 1,500m athlete Nick Willis (NZL) and 2012 Olympic 1,500m silver medalist Leo Manzano (USA).

The race turned into a slow tactical affair with all the big contenders watching each other in the early stages of the race. Willis demonstrated a devastating kick to pull clear of the field and win the race in a time of 4.11.3. Robinson showed impressive speed of his own to finish second in a time of 4.12 ahead of Olympic silver medalist Manzano third in a time of 4.13.3
"I am happy with that; it was a very slow race, very tactical. I am delighted to get second to Nick. He is a great tactician and his experience came through today, he was the stronger athlete, well done to him."

Amy Foster (City of Lisburn AC) opened her 2014 outdoor season in style with a fast 11.50 second run in the 100m at the Tom Jones Memorial Meet in Florida. The time was just .01 of a second outside her personal best for the distance.

Brian Gregan (Clonliffe Harriers AC) was also in action over the weekend competing in the 200m at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays in California. This was Gregan's season opener and he produced an encouraging performance to run a time of 21.40 to finish in seventh place. Gregan will now team up with Robinson to run on the Irish team at the Penn Relays this Saturday, April 26th.

Conor McCullough (Crusaders AC) contested the hammer event at the Mt. Sac Relays. McCullough produced a consistent set of throws, with all of his efforts over 70m. His best throw came in the final round when he launched the hammer out to 72.53m to finish in second place. The throw was less than a metre shy of the qualification standard (73.50m) for the European Track and Field Championships in Zurich in August.
